IIT Bombay beats IIT Delhi as India's Top School in QS Ranks
The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay is the top ranking institute in India as per the latest QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University rankings 2019.
Till last year, IIT Delhi was at the top of the list in India at number one. This year, IIT Bombay jumped 17 spots, from 179th place last year to 162nd place this year, to grab the top spot in India. IISc came in second at 170th position and IIT Delhi was third at 172nd position.
The other top-ranked institutions in India include IIT Chennai at 264, IIT Kanpur at 283, IIT Kharagpur at 295, IIT Roorkee at 381, and IIT Guwahati at 472.
The 2019 QS rankings edition ranked 1000 top institutes in the world for the first time, the best of 4700 institutions eligible for inclusion. This was also the first time that colleges getting a specific rank included the top 500. Till previous years, colleges ranked 400 and above were broken into bands.
Media reports quoted IIT Bombay Director, Devang Khakhar as saying,"The faculty and students are striving to excel in education and research. The increase in rank is a reflection of continuous improvement in all spheres of our activity."
