Text books with QR Codes

Textbooks in schools in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthat will have QR codes in their textbooks, said Nandan Nilekani, when speaking as a part of a keynote panel, "Realizing a Billion Aspirations, organized by Deshpande Foundation at Hubbali.

Expanding on the project Nilekani said, "We are working with NGO partners to take technology to people. As part of this initiative, we have joined hands with state governments to energize textbooks." The project, as detailed now, will allow students to view video tutorials and customized content on smartphones once they scan the QR code.

Rohini Nilekani, Mr. Nilekani's wife and founder and chairperson of Arghyam Foundation, also said that this will allow children to go beyond textbook knowledge. She added, "As part of the initiative, textbooks will have digital links with a QR code printed at the lesson and this code will have digital material related to the particular concept, which could be a short video lecture or a tutorial or a customized content."

This project is to be an open source project and contributions can come from anyone.
